These meetings are for payed WALRAA members and generally occur on the third Wednesday of every month, except during the months of August and September. Topics range from our Annual NALP Conference Recap, to Current Perspectives on Diversity Recruiting in Law Firms, to Successful Presentations and Communication. This WALRAA-sponsored event occurs in February each year. The Ninth Annual Diversity 8 Minute Networking Event was held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. The annual event provides diverse first-year law students from local schools to opportunity engage in one-on-one conversations with participating attorneys in eight minute intervals. In addition to being a wonderful opportunity for the students, it’s a great way for firms to connect with 1Ls they might see during their 2L year through OCI. On Thursday, March 14th, WALRAA held its 2013 Workshop for Newer Professionals. The workshop, geared towards newer professionals was followed by a networking happy hour for the entire membership at the St. Regis Hotel.
The workshop included four interactive sessions with presenters from the law school and law firm communities. Sessions were designed to engage participants and maximize opportunities for networking. Resources and materials presented at the workshop are available to active WALRAA members in the Member Center, under Resource Center. The 2013 event was held on June 17 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. The purpose of this event is to bring together legal employers and rising second-year law students (with an expected graduation date of May 2015) who contribute to the diversity of the legal profession and are interested in practicing law in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. This was a great opportunity for employers and students to network before the start of the fall recruitment season. Employers who are not a member of WALRAA are welcome to register.

The WALRAA Educational Conference is held every other year and typically occurs in March. The Conference is a half day of programming for WALRAA members and also includes a vendor fair.
