The Professionalism Planning Committee & the Programming Committee are proud to present the ABC's, LMN's & XYZ's of Recruiting.

The March meeting will be held at the Fairmont Hotel and will start promptly at 12:00 pm. There will be a short general meeting, and a lunch buffet from 12:00 pm – 12:30 pm only, afterwards the attending members will be divided into three concurrent sessions based on their years of experience:

  • ABC’s – 1 - 2 years of experience (12:30 pm – 2 pm) – Kennedy Ballroom
  • LMN’s – 3 - 7 years of experience (12:30 pm – 2 pm) – Culpeper Room
  • XYZ’s – 8+ years of experience (12:30 pm – 1:30 pm) – Decatur Room

ABC’s – 1-2 years of experience
This workshop is designed for newer professionals and will dive into the “ABC’s of Recruiting.” It will provide an overview of a typical calendar year for law firm recruiting professionals, which the presenters will break down by recruiting seasons. This workshop will also touch upon best practices for legal career services professionals for effectively educating and communicating with both law students and law firm professionals.
Panelists include:

  • Melissa Forshey – Legal Recruiting Manager, Steptoe & Johnson LLP
  • Julia Glickman – Attorney Recruiting & HR Administrator, Perkins Coie LLP
  • Edward Lafayette – Senior Legal Recruiting Coordinator, Ropes & Grey LLP

LMN’s – 3-7 years of experience
This interactive panel session – aimed at mid-level recruiting and career services professionals – will examine how to develop lasting and productive relationships with legal search firms.
Panelists include:

  • Dan Binstock – Garrison & Sisson
  • Steve Nelson – The McCormick Group
  • Sarah Van Steenburg – Major, Lindsey, & Africa

XYZ’s – 8 or more years of experience
Senior WALRAA members are invited to a facilitated brainstorming discussion covering issues of particular relevance to the more experienced members of our group. Discussion topics may include: recruiting timelines, managing up and down, and professional development.
Discussion leaders include:

  • Jen Gewertz – Director of Firmwide Attorney Recruiting, Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP
